Olympique Lyon was once the premier club in France, winning seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles around the turn of the century, a stretch of consecutive league titles that even PSG hasn’t matched (yet).
However, the 2023-24 season has been an unmitigated disaster for Olympique Lyon, who recently changed owners and presidents, with the American businessman John Textor and his Eagle Football group taking over in 2022. So why have they sunk so low? What caused them to have such a strange transfer window? Why are Lyon so bad this season?

Maybe those men should speak to the women's team and get a boost of winner mentality, lol
John Textor clearly bit off more than he could chew when he bought Lyon. Hence all the financial struggles since then…
Textor is destroying so many clubs atm…
My club went from 4th division to first in 5 years or so. When Textor came in it all went to shit…
Blud should've stayed overseas
French have the greediest owner ever 😂
haha Rabona as a frenchman i enjoyed your reading of the DNCG 🙂
Vizeh did similar video on Lyon, but he didn't go into details and his research was lacking as well. When comparing to Adrian video breakdown on Lyon downfall. There was much more depth in Adrian breakdown than Vizeh. Just something I've noticed lately 😌 😕
Lyon has been bought by leverage buy-out. Textor has no money himself, he sell the club properties (the women team, the venue next to the stadium…) to pay for his debt. He didn't have a cent to spent in the transfert window and so we only got low cost player who clearly don't have what it take to be competitive in Ligue 1.
As Barca fan I feel you Lyon when it feels like your league is after you
Talk about Cruzeiro EC!
Ajax, Lyon and Basel the three biggest falls from grace just this season
I’m in Lyon now (beautiful city can recommend) and off to the game on Sunday… not a bad primer
In the past, Lyon is used to face the European giants like Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Manchester United, among the others. However, Lyon considered Real Madrid as the most luckier one. Because everytime both sides played each other in the Champions League, the French side went unbeaten between 2005 and 2010, winning three games (all at home) and drawing three games (all away). They also had two Champions League successful runs in 2010 and 2020, and you know who is the club that ended Lyon's big dream in both cases? Bayern Munich! The Germans beat them 3-0 in the semifinal.
they need benzema back
Lyon, Ajax and Basel – The dominant jewel of their respective league are fighting a relegation battle in 2023. Madness yet not surprise if you're familiar with history and empires. They all fall, usually from the inside.
We have very low soccer IQ players with no work ethics. What can go wrong?
I love this club thank you for this Paco
30 years old here. Been a Lyon fan my whole life. So sad over what's happening to my beloved Gones.
Ajax, Basel as well
Please look into them
Nice analysis👍
So far American owners around European clubs have been failing. Rather stick with baseball? its a different game, different rules mainly out the pitch, I guess nobody takes them serious, Im also worried that PSG actually pays off courts and such in order to screw other clubs. I mean if they don't get penalties and restrictions on spending how is Lyon getting this persecution?
