I so want to get into french football but wtf is this. Payet's tackle had zero force in it and it's a red card!? Loved watching Dubois in the CL but what is he doing screaming like he has been shot? And yes, it's a pen (soft) but what's with all the rolling and screaming from Bard?!

Bring back real competition to Ligue 1. Stop match scripting, stop table manipulation. Let the people on the field compete to decide matches. We don't need more professional-wresting-style dramas and farces passed of as sport.

Ligue 1 has followed UEFA and FIFA down an awful, unsustainable path. Fans are not yet complaining in numbers. Once they fully notice the magnitude of the problem the damage will be enormous. Turn back now. Drama and interest follow naturally from competitive sport, but scripted sport kills these things for the players that you attempt to generate in the fans. You are killing the sport this way.

And put an end to grandstanding referees being out of position and making context-free penalty and red-card decisions based abstract readings of video or/and on the quality of the acting of an opposing player. There are too many bad red cards being called in France. The Payet thing, for one example (there are much clearer ones), both ignores the quickness of the play and the lack of danger involved in favor of overstressing the abstract principle that tackling above the ball is bad and the crazed screams of Dubois. Dubois does this screaming every match, and I like him and Lyon.

He does it, like so many other players no, because this overdramatizing – like outright diving – works to attract cards and it can be done without consequences.
